Free F/V Drill Conductor Workshop for Commercial Fishermen

The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association (AMSEA) will offer a 10-hour Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshop in Abbeville, LA on Sunday, January 24 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The workshop will be conducted at the Omega Protein, 9730 Andrew Road. This workshop is an excellent opportunity for commercial fishermen and other mariners to gain hands-on training with marine safety equipment and learn best practices for surviving emergencies at sea.

The Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshop covers emergency drills; EPIRBs, flares, and maydays; man-overboard recovery and firefighting; helicopter rescue, life rafts, and abandon ship procedures; immersion suits, PFDs and cold-water survival skills.

AMSEA’s Drill Conductor workshops meets the U.S. Coast Guard training requirements for Drill Conductors on documented commercial fishing vessels operating three or more miles offshore. This workshop is offered to commercial fishermen at no cost, thanks to support from the U.S. Coast Guard. The cost is $175 for all others and all mariners are welcome. Interested mariners may register online at www.amsea.org or call (907) 747-3287.
